Motorcycle Happiness

Manic Street Preachers will be coming to Singapore for the very first time! Mark this date down in your calendar, 24 Nov, Monday at Fort Canning Park. We’ve got our tickets! If you haven’t get your tickets, please do youself a favour and go get your tickets here.  This is probably your only chance to catch the Manics live! We can’t wait to sing along to Little Baby Nothing, “You are pure, you are snow. We are the useless sluts that they mould.”

Here’s one of our fave tracks off their debut album, Generation Terrorists, Love Sweet Exile. SWEET!

  1. hi there kim!

just thought id leave you a note to say i was there for the concert. a good mate scored us free entry via lamc, which was way cool.

the gig didnt turn out to be as exceptional as i had hoped it’d be though – it started fantastic, but then kinda trailed off after they played “faster”. its almost like guns n roses playing november rain and sweet child of mine as their first few songs, with no encore to boot.

hahah. but i enjoyed the gig still though. it was way cool to see them live, and just to watch wire do his lanky dance about the stage. and to watch them perform motorcycle emptiness live was supreme. i loved bradfield’s “everlasting” acoustic solo too.

hope you enjoyed the concert as well.

    cheers,
    ian

  2. I googled for info on when the Manics are arriving in Singapore, and stumbled upon your blog. Don’t they deserve a welcome at Changi airport? But can’t find any info yet 😦
    So excited about Fort Canning.
For the record, I still think Everything Must Go is fabulous, even though I grew up with Generation Terrorists 🙂 And yes, I’m loving Send Away The Tigers (maybe they should play it at the Singapore Zoo), haha.

  3. Hi Ian,

Yeah the new album they went back to their “old sound” Adter Everything Must Go was a major let down. Standout track from new album, Autumn Song, Underdogs, Indian Summer, The 2nd great depression and Winterlovers. Alos do lookout for the hidden track, Working Class Hero.

haha yeah for the glory of the old Manics! You should attend the concert. I can’t wait to hear Little Baby Nothing!!!

    Cheers!

  4. Hi there Kim,

thanks for your reply. I’m checking out the new album right now, and although its a marked improvement from the albums since Everything Must Go, i guess i never stayed in love with them since that album, as i find everything produced thereafter a little disjointed. Bradfield’s piercing vocals were perfect in the earlier albums, with their edgier and harder-rock sensibilities, but they dont marry as well with the acoustic and somwhat milder tones they favour now. that said, they’re icons in their own right, and i think, just for the glory of motorcycle emptiness, i shall try to attend the concert.

if i do get tickets, ill leave another post on your blog ya.

    cheers,
    ian

  5. Hi Ian,

At the beginning, I share the same sentimentals as you. But The Manics hardly come to this part of the world. And it’s a great opportunity to watch the band even though Richey is gone. Richey was the lyricist for the band, the main drive and brains behind the Manics. No doubt Generation Terrorists and Holy Bible were their best albums in their early years. I have to agree that Lifeblood and Know Your Enemy was shit! But don’t write the new Manics off yet, have you heard the latest album Send Away The Tigers? It’s a brilliant album!

You don’t know what you will be missing if you miss this chance of watching them now. And looking at the last few concerts of their set list. I’m pretty sure you will be happy! With songs from Generation Terrorists, Gold Against The Soul and Holy Bible! You won’t be disappointed with the new Manics! Wouldn’t you wanna hear Motorcycle Emptiness live! I really hope you that you will be there singing You Love Us!

  6. hi there..

i just googled the manic street preachers and singapore, and was directed to your blog post. nice to see youre headed to the concert. i havent bought tickets yet, and the reason im hesitant… well, i guess its because im afraid the concert might be disappointing. i was bowled over in my adolescent years by the generation terrorists and the holy bible, but once richey went missing, it seemed like the lost the groove. not that im a hardcore rocker or anything, but the edge that they had mellowed with everything must go, and just disappated thereafter. any chance you might have an idea of the set list at their past few concerts?

    cheers,
    ian
