London Calling! Ashley Isham

with 2 comments

cimg1959.jpg
Was at Ashley Isham show last night at Tent @ Orchard, one of the most anticipated show for this year Singapore Fashion Festival.

Happened to catch a short clip on tv for last night Ashley Isham show. And guess what music was use for that short clip, London Calling by The Clash. Wow 70’s punk rock, well done channel 5. It’s been awhile since I heard that song and what a way to hear it on our local tv.The high profile Ashley Isham, famous for his trademark draping and what we call sharp tailoring can be seen in full galore in this huge collection. Anticipation was written all over everyone’s faces. Ok maybe not everyone, just us. Don’t blame us, our expectations were higher due to the earlier slow moving Robinsons show. We needed some excitement on a Saturday evening, something extra. Ashley as always, delivered!

Junita Simon kicks off the show On her was a tiny well tailored short white dress, just that splash bits of black around the waist area give that dress that bit of chic factor.

The rest of the first collection are mostly a modern take on the classic black and white dress.

Second collection showcase Ashley’s skillful draping, detailed cutting and color.

The third and last installment for the night, it’s what we call Ziggy meets Electro meets JPG.

Robinsons 150 Glorious Years

without comments

This year Singapore Fashion Festival got a new runway, a elevated runway! A much better and wiser choice than last year level ground runway. Now everyone can have a better view at the clothes, the hair, the shoes, basically the whole works. The first show for us this year, Robinsons 150 Glorious Years show. Didn’t managde to take much photos. But what the heck, here’s some photos of the show anyway.

Night of Mayhem

with 4 comments

Horse The Band gig last night was nothing short of energy! The moment HTB guitarist David Isen started playing the first riff, the stage front transformed right away into a mosh pit frenzy. Kids invading the stage, stage diving almost every few mins! Moshing, body surfing, a rare sight at HOME club for quite awhile. HTB frontman, Nathan Winneke even smack some mosher ass while they were being body surfed! It was chaotic but it was all clean fun. Erik Engstrom, the synth/keyboard player for HTB was hopping like an over excited bunny while whacking the keyboard as if he was slamming some pizza dough! Nathan worked the crowd effortlessly, apparently the Singapore crowd were the best they ever had! Nathan even commented that we were 100 times better than the Hong Kong crowd, obviously the crowd roared with approval. Halfway through the set, the over hyper crowd ended the show early! Some kid accidentally knocked down the keyboard while trying to stage dive! Next thing we knew the keyboard went dead! For your info, that keyboard that Erik was using, courtesy from another band playing earlier on. And that’s one main instrument that HTB can’t do without. We came, the kids came, the mosh pit was hell, bodies flying everywhere, the kids had fun, HTB didn’t failed us, the keyboard did. The set ended early but the night didn’t, we managed to have a chat with the band outside, thanks to Sylvia and HOME Club for arranging this. Nathan promised to come back to Singapore and play for 3hrs the next time, he will kill himself if he didn’t. They even caught the kid that spoilt the night for everyone. This gig will go down in HOME Club history as the best ever! Pure rock n roll moment (To: Stick To Fashion. It’s a description, a feeling, an emotion. Not a musical genre used here. They do have metal influences in their music, but it’s not pure metal, it’s Nintendocore, or a more generic term to you, it’s metalcore. Thank you for pointing out the typo on Erik’s name. Thank you for reading).
Here’s some pics from last night gig.

A Twist On Rehab

without comments

Fashion takes a twist on Rehab.
Seems to me, an inspiration from Amy Winehouse, big hair, head bands and massive eye liners are back.
But hey, do it with a twist like what John Galliano did for Dior Fall 08.

I was greeted with these asian beauties at the recent Asian Film Festival in Hong Kong and they embodied what the modern woman is – Confident, Sophisticated and totally comfortable in her own skin.

Why Don’t You Find Out For Yourself

without comments

Love this song to death. Moz is genius.

The sanest days are mad
Why don’t you find out for yourself ?
Then you’ll see the price
Very closely

Some men here
They have a special interest
In your career
They wanna help you to grow
And then syphon all your dough
Why don’t you find out for yourself ?
Then you’ll see the glass
Hidden in the grass

You’ll never believe me, so
Why don’t you find out for yourself ?
Sick down to my heart
That’s just the way it goes

Some men here
They know the full extent of
Your distress
They kneel and pray
And they say :
“Long may it last”

Why don’t you find out for yourself ?
Then you’ll see the glass
Hidden in the grass
Bad scenes come and go
For which you must allow
Sick down to my heart
That’s just the way it goes

Don’t rake up my mistakes
I know exactly what they are
And … what do YOU do ?
Well … you just SIT THERE
I’ve been stabbed in the back
So many many times
I don’t have any skin
But that’s just the way it goes

The best music festival in Asia, Summer Sonic Festival happening on 8th and 9th Aug 2008. This year lineup is fucking awesome compared to last year! As you can see from the above poster. Godfather of punk Sex Pistols!!! Indie god The Verve! Electronic dance firestarter The Prodigy! Atmospheric Spiritualized! Godfather of indie Jesus And Mary Chain! Electro darlings Justice! Indie new faves New Young Pony Club, Band Of Horses, These New Puritans and Vampire Weekend! So tempted to go for this year Summer Sonic. Should I stay or should I go?

STOP SLAVERY charity gig

without comments

bbh6-stop-slavery-poster.jpg
Let’s side track away from fashion. Enough of that for the past few days. :)
In aid of The River Kids Project, Propaganda Machine and Riverkids Project will be putting up a show to raise funds and awareness about child slavery in Cambodia.
In Cambodia, children are sold as debt salves, domestic drudges, illegal adoptions, cheap labour and child prostitutes. I know it’s tough to stop all activities as it is not within our control. What Riverkids Project aims to do it’s to stop child trafficking before it can even start. And the local music scene here are doing their part to raise some funds in order for a charitable organization like Riverkids Project to help and educate families in Cambodia. Working directly with them inside the slums and offer individual support for each child’s particular risks and needs.
Having said all the serious issues. The show showcase some of the best in our music scene, Overthrown (Lion City Hardcore), The Jabs (Lion City Hardcore), Force Vomit (Surf punk), Ossuary (Legendary metal band), Johnny Shameless And His Minions (Scum Rock). Also on the bill, our friends from Thailand, Tender Preys (Rock n Roll).
Come down and do your bit if you can. It’s not much but at least someone is doing something about the cause.
Sunday 20th April, The Arts House – Playden. Doors open at 2pm sharp. Tickets SG$8 at the door.
